Would you like to join the Darwin Birthplace Society? You will be helping to preserve the heritage of Darwin and enjoy all the benefits of being a member of this new birthplace organisation.

As a member you will have the opportunity to learn more about Darwin and his intellectual legacy and become actively involved in the future work for the preservation of his Birthplace in Shrewsbury.

You will receive invitations to all Darwin events in Shrewsbury and a regular newsletter to update you on the progress being made to preserve and build upon the heritage of Charles Darwin in Shrewsbury.

The society will lay the foundations for the creation of a charitable trust to acquire public and private donations to preserve the birthplace as an internationally celebrated part of Shrewsbury's heritage. The society aims to:

•  Advance education in all matters concerning the research of Charles Darwin, with particular reference to his birth in Shrewsbury, schooling and formative years spent in Shrewsbury and the county beyond

•  Celebrate Charles Darwin's birth, life, his family, friends and their connections and intellectual development in Shrewsbury, Shropshire and the West Midlands

•  Provide facilities, projects, programmes and events for public access to the intellectual and educational heritage of Charles Darwin, his peers and those whom he inspired

•  Seek opportunities to use this heritage to confirm and support cultural identity and economic regeneration in Shrewsbury, Shropshire and the West Midlands

•  Develop and strengthen the association of Shrewsbury with Darwin and his history and establish the town of Shrewsbury in the minds of people regionally, nationally and internationally.
